Nuclear Safety Engineer – Technical Lead
Location: Remote opportunities available with offices in Corsham & Warrington. Occasional travel to client sites.
Role Overview
We are seeking dynamic Nuclear Safety Engineers to provide safety, risk and licensing support across naval and civil nuclear programmes. Responsibilities include managing projects, performing hazard analysis, developing safety arguments, conducting independent peer reviews, and providing licensing support in line with regulatory requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead tasks and manage smaller projects while undertaking safety engineering activities defined by Project Safety Plans and in compliance with Safety Management Systems (SMS).
- Perform hazard analysis to define safety requirements and detailed systems review to demonstrate that safety requirements can be met.
- Develop safety arguments and draft safety cases to support assurance and certification activities, including identifying appropriate evidence.
- Conduct Independent Peer and Periodic Safety Reviews for Nuclear Site Licensees and/or Design Authorities.
- Provide licensing support in relation to civil and defence nuclear regulations including Safety Assessment Principles (SAPs) and Security Assessment Principles (SyAPs).
- Undertake safety assessment via application of regulatory requirements, legislation, tools and techniques.
- Liaise with system developers, certification bodies, operators, operational engineering, systems engineering and facilities management as necessary.
Qualifications and Experience
- Experience in Nuclear Safety in either the civil or naval nuclear markets, including Naval Nuclear (submarine systems and/or facilities), Nuclear Decommissioning, or Nuclear Power Station New Build.
- Demonstrated experience applying safety and risk engineering processes to identify hazards, author safety cases, assess risk, and implement controls.
- Ability to build effective working relationships with clients and colleagues; proficient in face‑to‑face, video, telephone and email communication.
- Strong commitment to high quality standards and delivery excellence.
- Excellent communication skills across all levels; articulate, negotiable, persuasive and a good listener.
- Team player willing to support the New Business Unit’s development in a constructive, positive manner.
