Job Description
Role: Supporting the council's P1 critical services, ensuring statutory obligations are met regarding:
* Protecting consumer health through enforcement of food standards (FS) in accordance with the NEW Food Standards Delivery Model (FSDM), including food labelling and presentation in commercial premises and food hygiene (FH) in high risk (A and B Category), approved premises, and low-risk premises.
* Notifiable infectious diseases and emerging diseases impacting health.
* Protecting health, safety, and welfare through enforcement of health and safety standards in commercial premises and activities.
Delivering services in accordance with legislation, codes of practice, policies, local systems, and professional standards. Responsibilities include:
* Inspections of high-risk premises, projects, audits, surveys, enforcement activities, publicity, meetings, application processing, investigations, sampling, evidence gathering, test purchases, interviews, statement taking, report preparation, and briefing.
Proper handling of evidence, records, and data to ensure confidentiality, integrity, and compliance with data protection laws.
Preparing legal cases and evidence for Court, Tribunal, or other statutory hearings, and appearing as a witness when required.
Conducting investigations and enforcement actions in line with legal processes and codes of practice, including closures, seizures, notices, warrants, cautions, prosecutions, and legal documentation.
Providing high-quality, timely, and accurate advice and guidance to customers, colleagues, the public, elected members, senior managers, solicitors, architects, surveyors, and other professionals in a clear and understandable manner.
This role can be full or part-time; preference is for full-time. The candidate may focus solely on inspections if necessary, but ideally will perform both inspections and complaint investigations.
Essential Qualifications: BSc in Environmental Health or similar, EHRB Registered, or other regulatory/vocational qualifications such as Lead Assessor.
