Job Overview
The Assistant Lead Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) nurse is responsible for delivering specialist IPC advisory services, supporting staff, patients and visitors, and leading IPC initiatives within the Trust.
Key Responsibilities
* Provide specialist IPC advice, support, and training to healthcare staff, patients, visitors and non‑trust staff.
* Lead and mentor junior IPC team members, conduct 1‑to‑1 meetings, appraisals and sickness management.
* Co‑ordinate outbreak investigations, review laboratory results, and monitor HCAI trends to implement control measures.
* Chair IPC meetings, outbreak and incident meetings, and structured review cases.
* Support the Lead IPC Nurse in implementing IPC strategies and deputise for the Head of Nursing or IPC Lead Nurse when required.
* Deliver education and training on key topics such as Hand Hygiene, MRSA, Aseptic Non‑Touch Technique (ANTT) and Clostridioides difficile.
* Ensure compliance with IPC and Trust policies, legislation, and local guidance.
* Monitor and report on Key Performance Indicators relating to IPC practice and HCAI reduction.
* Engage ward staff in IPC service improvement and support investigation of IPC incidents.
Essential Qualifications and Experience
Applicants must meet the essential qualifications outlined in the Person Specification and provide original evidence at interview. At least the following are required:
* Registered Nursing qualification (RN) with relevant IPC experience.
* Demonstrated knowledge of IPC best practice and current guidance.
* Strong analytical, communication and leadership skills.
