Lead Electrical Systems Engineer – Trackside Motorsport - Northamptonshire - £75,000 – £80,000
📍 Silverstone, UK
💼 Full-Time, Permanent
💰 £75,000 – £80,000 (depending on experience)
The Company
A legendary name in motorsport with over six decades of race-winning heritage, now entering an exciting new chapter under ambitious new ownership.
Based in Silverstone, this team is building next-generation competition vehicles and advanced technologies with real-world applications beyond the circuit. With major investment underway, they are scaling rapidly and strengthening their engineering capability across key disciplines.
This is an opportunity to join a high-performance environment where technical ownership, pace, and real-world delivery matter.
The Role
This is a hands-on, trackside-focused electrical systems leadership role, suited to someone who has progressed through motorsport wiring and loom design and is now operating as a car electrical / control systems engineer running the car.
For the first 9–12 months, the role will be heavily testing-led, with significant trackside involvement as vehicles move through intensive build and validation phases.
You’ll take ownership of the vehicle’s electrical systems from design through build and live testing, acting as the primary engineer for electrical architecture, diagnostics, and system performance.
The role combines trackside responsibility with Silverstone-based design and development work, feeding real-world learnings directly back into system improvements.
Key Responsibilities
* Run the car trackside as the Electrical/ Control Systems Engineer during test and race activities
* Diagnose and resolve electrical and systems faults in live environments
* Own electrical architecture across vehicle platforms (LV systems primarily)
* Lead wiring harness design, loom modifications, and hands-on wiring where required
* Feed trackside learnings back into design improvements and system upgrades
* Support system integration including ECUs, sensors, actuators, and CAN networks
* Manage electrical commissioning and power-up procedures
* Liaise with suppliers and internal teams on component specification and system development
* Provide technical guidance to technicians and junior engineers
* Support reporting, documentation, and design activities when factory-based
Seasonally, this role will alternate between intensive trackside activity and Silverstone-based engineering work.
Skills & Experience Required
* Proven experience as a trackside car electrical or control systems engineer (essential)
* Background in motorsport wiring, loom design, and vehicle electrical systems
* Experience diagnosing and fixing electrical faults under time pressure at track
* Strong understanding of motorsport sensing, ECUs, and CAN-based systems
* Comfortable using vehicle monitoring and data tools (e.g. ATLAS or similar)
* Hands-on mindset with strong system ownership
* Clear communicator able to work cross-functionally in fast-paced environments
This role naturally suits engineers from Formula 1, Formula E, or equivalent top-level motorsport, though comparable experience will be considered.
Preferred Experience
* Experience running cars in F1, FE, or top-level motorsport
* Exposure to hybrid or electric vehicle systems
* Previous responsibility for vehicle electrical architecture
* Experience feeding trackside data back into design improvements
* Mentorship or leadership of technicians or junior engineers
Why Join?
* Join an iconic motorsport brand during a major growth phase
* Take ownership of live vehicle electrical systems
* Work across design, build, and track operations
* Be part of a highly technical, collaborative engineering team
* Competitive salary and Silverstone-based HQ
* Opportunity to shape the future of a historic racing organisation
