Diabetes Specialist Podiatrist

Closing date: 21 May 2026

We are seeking a part‑time diabetes specialist podiatrist on a fixed‑term basis for 12 months to cover maternity leave. Band 6 podiatrists, secondment opportunities or a bank position will also be considered.

Work with a well‑established multidisciplinary team, including diabetes consultants, podiatrists, a podiatry assistant, vascular and orthopaedic surgeons, orthotists, plaster technicians, dieticians and diabetes specialist nurses. Provide expert care to high‑risk patients with complex diabetic foot disease in outpatient clinics and the inpatient setting, including assessing and treating acute foot problems in the emergency department. An SDEC (same‑day emergency clinic) offers an acute service to support community colleagues and relieve pressures in the ED. Addenbrooke's Hospital is a regional vascular centre and a tertiary centre for complex diabetic foot disease; the post holder will liaise closely with a wide range of health‑care professionals across primary and secondary care.

Working days: Monday, Tuesday and Friday. Alternative working patterns may be considered.

Main duties of the job

You will be registered with the HCPC and possess excellent knowledge and understanding of the assessment, diagnosis and management of diabetic foot disease alongside strong clinical skills. Applicants with less experience in this setting will also be considered if willing to learn and develop.

Responsibilities include independent assessment, diagnosis, planning, implementation and evaluation of podiatric care for patients with diabetes and a range of co‑existing complications (neuropathy, vascular disease, cardiac and renal failure, dementia, acute and chronic infection). Care will be delivered in out‑patients, medical and surgical in‑patient wards and the Emergency Department.

Assess, diagnose and treat new patients, assembling individual specialised care packages and providing appropriate foot‑care education and advice.
