Overview
This role sits within a specialist paediatric rehabilitation engineering service supporting children and young people with severe and complex physical disabilities. We provide equipment that supports 24-hour postural management, a vital component of maintaining posture, comfort, function, and independence across seating, standing, and lying systems.
As part of this role, the post holder will attend a range of specialist clinics both on-site and off-site, working within a multidisciplinary team to assess individual needs and determine appropriate assistive technology solutions. You will provide technical advice to families, clinicians, and colleagues on the safe and effective use of the equipment, offer guidance to junior staff, and liaise with external agencies where appropriate.
Qualifications & Band
The position is offered at Band 6 for applicants who are registered Rehabilitation Engineers with the Register of Clinical Technologists (RCT). Applicants may also be considered for a Band 5 Rehabilitation Engineer who is eligible and committed to completing RCT registration, with progression to Band 6 reliant on successful registration within the agreed timeframe.
Responsibilities
1. Attend solo or as part of an RES team appointments and clinics with users, carers, and staff from other disciplines/outside agencies to discuss problems experienced by clients and carers for which assistive technology may provide a solution.
2. Design, develop, and manufacture equipment or adapt/modify commercially available equipment to solve individual problems of daily living experienced by clients and their families and carers.
3. Work within our Quality Management System and understand what we are registered to do.
4. Take account of the medical, therapeutic, nursing and the client’s personal requirements relevant to the assistive devices to be supplied.
5. Use sound engineering techniques and other appropriate practices to develop and produce the assistive devices required and seek advice when in doubt.
6. Communicate effectively with management and all RES staff, therapists, clients, local services and contractors in a professional manner.
7. Effectively organise and complete own workload and be efficient in the use of time and materials.
8. Contribute to project files and product development, attend staff meetings and participate in delegated action plans for the department as agreed by management.
9. Work as an engaged and enthusiastic member of the RES team, including supporting ongoing projects and assisting other members of staff.
