The role

NHS GGC is seeking to appoint a Clinical Scientist to act as a Medical Physics Expert and Radiation Protection Adviser within the Health Physics Service. The person appointed will contribute to radiation protection services provided by Health Physics to hospitals throughout the West and Borders of Scotland.

An essential aspect of this role will be a strong involvement in artificial intelligence (AI) in diagnostic radiology. The successful candidate will be expected to act as lead MPE for AI initiatives within diagnostic radiology for the Health Board, driving the development, implementation, and oversight of AI technologies to support clinical practice. Experience in the application of AI in a healthcare setting, particularly in diagnostic radiology, will be highly advantageous. The candidate should demonstrate the ability to collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and contribute to the advancement of safe, effective, and innovative AI solutions in medical imaging.

The appointee will join an experienced team of twelve physicists and five technologists in Health Physics. The Service provides radiation protection, diagnostic radiology physics and non-ionising radiation services to several Health Boards within the West and Borders of Scotland. The post offers the successful candidate an excellent opportunity to build on their experience in radiation protection within a group with a core expertise in all aspects of radiation protection.

Applicants should have a good honours degree in physical sciences and an MSc in medical physics or equivalent experience. They must be state registered as a Clinical Scientist and have extensive experience as an RPA and an MPE in diagnostic radiology.

AI tools like ChatGPT or Copilot can be great for planning and preparing your application, but your answers must be your own.

  • Show us the real you: Your application should reflect your skills, experience, and motivations authentically.
  • Use AI wisely: It’s fine to use AI for ideas or to check spelling and grammar, but don’t let it write your answers.
  • Why this matters: Applications that rely on AI-generated content may be withdrawn. By applying, you confirm your responses are based on your own knowledge and achievements.

Tip: Think of AI as a helper, not a substitute. We want to understand you, not an AI tool.
