Senior EC&I Designer
Location: Manchester (Office based – remote working can be discussed)
Scope: Outside IR35
Working Pattern: Hybrid (2–3 days per week in the office, typically Tuesday to Thursday)

Role Purpose
We are working with a major UK engineering and construction organisation operates across highly regulated infrastructure sectors including energy, transport, water, and defence. It is widely recognised for delivering complex, safety-critical programmes, with a strong emphasis on systems engineering, risk management, and long-term asset performance. The business typically works within frameworks and collaborative delivery models, partnering closely with clients to manage technical, regulatory, and stakeholder challenges associated with nationally significant infrastructure projects.
The Senior EC&I Designer will be responsible for delivering high-quality electrical, control and instrumentation (EC&I) designs across a range of water-sector projects. The role involves producing and checking detailed design deliverables, ensuring compliance with UK legislation, industry standards and company procedures, while working closely with multi-disciplinary teams.
Key Responsibilities
Produce safe, practical and cost-effective EC&I designs to a high professional standard
Ensure all designs comply with company procedures, UK legislation and relevant standards
Prepare detailed design deliverables including, but not limited to:
Single Line Diagrams (SLDs)
P&IDs
IO and Cable Schedules
Schematics
Block Cable Diagrams (BCDs)
Material Take-Offs (MTOs)
Equipment and cable routing layouts
Check and approve drawings in line with company quality and assurance procedures
Liaise with project engineers, other design disciplines and key stakeholders
Support project delivery by contributing technical expertise throughout the design lifecycle
Maintain a strong focus on safety, risk management and customer requirements
Qualifications
ONC / OND / HNC / HND (or equivalent) in an engineering-related discipline
Experience & Technical Skills
Minimum of 10 years’ experience in EC&I or electrical design within the water sector or similar regulated industries
Strong knowledge of EC&I design practices and installation requirements
Proficient in CAD systems
Good understanding of LV electrical design
Working knowledge of relevant UK legislation, regulations and standards
