Lead Nurse for Neonatal Discharge, Outreach and Safeguarding – Band 7
We are looking for an experienced Neonatal Discharge coordinator, Outreach and Safeguarding Lead to join our team. Our NICU is the Level 3 unit for the North Central London area, providing specialist intensive care for critically ill babies. We have close links with an on-site fetal medicine unit that is a regional, national and international referral centre for fetal medicine, caring for more than 7,000 patients each year and offering an MDT that provides individualised care for pregnant women and their families when there is concern for the health of an unborn baby. This setting provides a wealth of varied experience and opportunities for career development in Neonatal Nursing.
There are extensive opportunities to progress, including complex deliveries, exposure to babies requiring ITU care, involvement in governance, quality improvement projects and research. You will have the opportunity to support students and nurses undergoing their specialty training, engage with a wide MDT to support families, promote family integrated care, and provide high quality care. You will also lead the development of the Outreach service in line with the latest BAPM framework.
Responsibilities
* Work according to the NMC Code of Professional Conduct and relevant professional guidelines as a Named Nurse (or Key Worker) for a defined group of patients
* Ensure provision of a high standard of holistic, patient-centred care
* Assess nursing care and health education needs
* Develop, implement and evaluate programmes of care including discharge planning for each patient
* Organise and manage the department, including supervision of students
* Provide clinical leadership and ensure the provision of high standard of holistic, patient-centred care
* Coordinate patient care, manage resources and oversee staff performance; responsible for Finance and Human Resources issues related to the department
* Implement Audit, Quality and Risk Management initiatives and contribute to the Trust’s Core Standards and Top 10 Objectives
* Promote and participate in the Nursing & Midwifery strategy and sustainability goals
* Maintain high standards of care, communicate with the MDT, check and administer drugs according to guidelines, and support safe practice on the neonatal unit
* Engage with education and governance activities and support student learning and clinical placements
Qualifications
* Recognised teaching qualification preferred and demonstrated commitment to ongoing development
* Ability to lead and develop services, with strong clinical leadership and management skills
* Ability to work within the NMC Code and professional guidelines as a Named Nurse
* Experience in neonatal nursing and in leading discharge planning and outreach services
