An excellent opportunity has arisen for an experienced Payroll Manager to join a leading multi-site organisation based in Borehamwood. This newly created position will play a key role in the delivery of a robust, efficient, and compliant payroll service to a workforce of over 8,000 employees across multiple sites.
The successful candidate will manage a team of three Payroll Officers and report directly to the Head of Payroll. This is an exciting time to join a business that is investing in its payroll function and committed to continuous improvement, system development, and professional growth.
Key Responsibilities
* Oversee the end-to-end processing of payroll for a large, multi-site organisation, ensuring all employees are paid accurately and on time.
* Lead, motivate, and develop a payroll team, conducting regular one-to-ones, reviews, and training to support ongoing development.
* Maintain compliance with all UK payroll legislation, statutory requirements, and company policies.
* Ensure the timely submission of statutory returns, including PAYE, NIC, RTI, and pension contributions.
* Manage payroll audits, reconciliations, and reporting activities, ensuring strong internal controls and accuracy.
* Collaborate with HR and Finance to streamline processes and support continuous improvement initiatives.
* Provide expert advice to senior stakeholders on payroll legislation and best practice.
Key Skills and Experience Required
* Proven experience managing end-to-end payroll operations within a large, multi-site organisation.
* Demonstrated experience managing and developing a payroll team.
* Strong technical understanding of UK payroll legislation, PAYE, NIC, RTI, and statutory payments.
* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build strong working relationships at all levels.
* Strong Excel and data analysis skills for reporting and reconciliations.
* Experience using Unit4 is desirable, although not essential.
* CIPP qualification (or equivalent experience) is preferred.
