Overview
Delta Independent School is seeking a dynamic and experienced Vice Principal to join our leadership team. The Vice Principal will play a critical role in supporting the school's vision and mission, with a particular emphasis on special educational needs coordination (SENCO), safeguarding, and examinations management. As a key member of the senior leadership team, the Vice Principal will contribute to the strategic planning and overall management of the school.
Key Responsibilities
SENCO Duties
• Lead the development and implementation of the school's Special Educational Needs (SEN) policy.
• Ensure that the provision for SEN pupils is compliant with current legislation and best practises.
• Manage and support the SEN team, including teaching assistants and support staff.
• Conduct assessments and reviews for SEN pupils, including Education, Health, and Care Plan (EHCP) processes.
• Liaise with parents, external agencies, and professionals to ensure coordinated support for SEN pupils.
• Provide professional guidance to colleagues, promoting effective teaching strategies and interventions for SEN pupils.
Designated Safeguarding Lead
• Act as the main point of contact for all safeguarding concerns within the school.
• Ensure that all staff are aware of and follow the school's safeguarding policies and procedures.
• Keep records of safeguarding concerns and actions taken, ensuring confidentiality and compliance with data protection legislation.
• Coordinate responses to safeguarding incidents and liaise with external agencies such as social services and the police.
• Provide training and updates to school staff on safeguarding issues and legislation.
Exams Officer
• Manage the administration of all external examinations and assessments within the school.
• Ensure compliance with examination board regulations and requirements.
• Coordinate the timetable for exams, including room bookings and invigilation schedules.
• Oversee the secure storage and handling of examination materials.
• Provide support and guidance to students and staff regarding examination processes and procedures.
General Vice Principal Duties
• Assist the Principal in the overall leadership and management of the school.
• Contribute to the development and implementation of school policies, plans, and procedures.
• Engage in staff recruitment, induction, and professional development activities.
• Monitor teaching and learning across the school, promoting high standards of education.
• Participate in the school's self-evaluation processes and quality assurance measures.
• Represent the school at local and regional events, fostering positive relationships with the community.
Qualifications and Experience
• Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) with a proven track record of successful teaching experience.
• A recognised SENCO qualification or a willingness to work towards obtaining one.
• Experience in a leadership or management role within an educational setting.
• Knowledge of safeguarding policies and procedures, with experience as a Designated Safeguarding Lead preferred.
• Familiarity with the administration of school examinations and understanding of relevant regulations.
