Overview
Job Title: Special Needs Support Assistant (Autism Focus) — Location: Oldham, Lancashire. Contract: Full Time (8:30 AM - 3:30 PM). Salary Range: £89 - £95 per day. We are seeking a compassionate and experienced Special Needs Support Assistant to provide 1:1 support to a Year 2 student with autism within an Ofsted rated 'Good' school in Oldham, Lancashire. This full-time role requires dedication and a proactive approach to ensure the student’s wellbeing and academic progression.
Responsibilities
* Deliver 1:1 support tailored to the student’s individual learning and communication needs, particularly those with autism.
* Utilise visual picture cards and other alternative communication methods to engage and interact with a non-verbal student effectively.
* Provide occasional basic personal care assistance, as the student may have accidents due to communication challenges.
* Implement behaviour management strategies to handle situations calmly and safely when the student is in crisis, which may include dealing with physical behaviours.
* Monitor the student’s progress and work closely with teachers and parents to facilitate supportive strategies both in and out of the classroom.
* Participate in the development and implementation of Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and attend meetings as required.
Qualifications & Experience
* A current Enhanced DBS on the update service.
* Previous experience supporting students with additional needs, particularly autism, in a 1:1 capacity.
* Proven ability to use visual aids and picture cards for communication with non-verbal individuals.
* Understanding of the challenges faced by individuals with communication difficulties and experience in managing these effectively.
* Experience dealing with behavioural challenges, including physical behaviours in a professional and patient manner.
* Previous experience within a UK-based educational setting is essential.
