Job Requirements
We have an exciting opportunity for a Lead Design Engineer to join our Power Grids Engineering Design Team, supporting the EGL1 project. Our Engineering Design Team is responsible for designing and installing High Voltage Cable systems for diverse clients.
The team provides services ranging from cable supply and jointing to full turn-key installation projects.
The successful candidate will work on a large cross-country HV Cable Installation project, delivering effective, safe, and cost-efficient design solutions. They will liaise closely with site engineers to ensure timely, within-budget project delivery, meeting specifications and mitigating risks.
Key Activities and Responsibilities
* Understanding customer requirements and relevant National Grid standards
* Compiling Project Engineering Design Packs for site teams
* Chairing site design review meetings and coordinating approvals
* Maintaining communication with all project teams through regular site meetings
* Design document management and control
* Managing change management procedures
* Developing and tracking the design programme
* Collecting and analyzing as-built data
This role involves aspects of mechanical, civil, and electrical engineering.
Skills and Experience
* Qualified graduates in Civil Engineering, Project Management, or related fields are encouraged to apply
* Experience in cross-country utilities projects is advantageous
* Proficiency in document management and KPI reporting
* Knowledge of National Grid design procedures is beneficial
* Experience with National Grid CDAE role is preferred
* Structured, systematic approach with strong attention to detail
* Excellent communication and presentation skills
* Ability to collaborate across disciplines
* Ability to consider overall project aspects such as cost, options, compliance, practicality, and customer needs
The role involves both office and site work. A full driving license is required.
