What You'll Be Doing
As an Apprentice Security Systems Engineer, you'll be out in the field and on-site, learning how to install, maintain, and support the systems that keep buildings and people secure.
Your day-to-day could include:
1. Installing and configuring security systems such as CCTV, intruder alarms, and access control systems (including card readers and biometric devices)
2. Running and terminating cabling, reading technical drawings, and ensuring installations meet industry standards (e.g. NSI/SSAIB)
3. Testing and commissioning systems, diagnosing faults, and carrying out routine maintenance and repairs
4. Supporting emergency call-outs and helping to restore systems quickly and safely
5. Working closely with clients, understanding their needs, and showing them how to use their systems
6. Keeping accurate records of your work, including system configurations, fault reports, and compliance documentation
7. Always working in line with Health, Safety, Environmental and Quality (HSEQ) standards
As part of your role, you'll complete the Level 3 Fire, Emergency and Security Systems Technician Apprenticeship, delivered by Skills4Security.
8. Training is delivered via block release
9. Travel and accommodation are fully covered by Mitie
10. You'll receive a mix of classroom learning and hands-on practical training
11. Full support from both your training provider and Mitie's dedicated Apprenticeship Team
This programme typically runs over 36 months, giving you the knowledge, skills, and qualifications to become a fully qualified Security Systems Engineer.

15. GCSEs in Maths and English (Grades 4-9 or equivalent) or Scottish National 5 certificates (Grade A-C). Certificates must be provided at the interview stage.
