Lord Lawson of Beamish Academy is a larger-than-average mixed secondary school located in Birtley, Gateshead. The school has approximately 1450 students, including around 200 in the sixth form. Situated on a large, well-maintained site, the school offers excellent facilities for learning. It was founded in 1970 and the current building opened in September 2007.
We are offering a position with potential for further training to become a Higher Level Teaching Assistant or support to apply for teacher training programmes.
Role Responsibilities:
1. Provide physical and communication support tailored to individual student needs, establishing productive relationships.
2. Support students in accessing the curriculum and extracurricular activities, including lessons, assemblies, and visits.
3. Work with students with additional needs to facilitate access to learning.
4. Administer and assess routine tests under supervision.
5. Monitor and record students' progress, providing feedback to teachers.
6. Support cognitive development by removing barriers to learning.
7. Adapt materials to suit student needs.
8. Promote inclusion and independence in communication, learning, and social skills.
9. Assist in setting and reviewing individual targets and contribute to EHCP meetings and reports.
10. Ensure students' physical welfare, assisting with physical needs as appropriate.
11. Liaise with professionals and external agencies when necessary.
12. Support emotional and social development by encouraging positive behaviour.
13. Contribute to support programmes for students with additional needs.
14. Support assessment and delivery of examination access arrangements, including invigilation.
Additional benefits include weekly day release at Gateshead College, working towards a Level 3 Teaching Assistant apprenticeship standard.
Contract details: 37 hours per week, Monday to Friday, permanent, term-time only.
