Applications are invited for an Ernest Oppenheimer Studentship to be held at Cambridge University in Colloid Science, broadly interpreted within the fields of biology, chemistry, physics, materials science, and engineering. The Studentship supports research projects leading to a PhD.
The application must be made by the designated research supervisor on behalf of the candidate. Typically, only one application per supervisor will be considered. The application should include:
1. A brief description of the proposed research project, its relevance to colloid science, the intended start date, and the duration of the award.
2. A completed copy of the cover sheet form accompanying this notice.
The award provides a grant at the EPSRC standard rate plus £2000 per annum, along with the University Composition Fee at the home rate. Overseas students must cover the difference between overseas and home fees, either through another award or other means. The Studentship also includes contributions towards consumables and travel costs of £7,000 per annum. Exceptional cases for increased funding may be considered.
The Studentship lasts 3.5 years, starting on 1 October 2025. The maintenance grant covers 42 months, and contributions for consumables and the Composition Fee cover 36 months.
For this cycle, the Committee expects to allocate one or two Studentships, with decisions expected by mid-February 2025.
The University supports equality, diversity, and inclusion and encourages applications from all societal sections. The University also ensures all employees are eligible to live and work in the UK.
