An exciting opportunity has arisen to join our friendly Cellular Pathology department at Torbay Hospital situated at the heart of the beautiful South Devon Coast. We are seeking to recruit a suitably qualified and experienced Specialist Biomedical Scientist. We will also consider applications from qualified Biomedical Scientists who are about to start or part way through their specialist portfolio and will start on Annex U until successful completion of their specialist portfolio. The department handles around 21,000 diagnostic requests per year and performs a range of histological procedures. The department is critical to patient management by providing diagnosis for a range of different tissue samples. The department uses the Beaker LIMS system and the Roche Vantage Tracking system.
The successful candidate will need to be dedicated, dynamic, work well as part of a small, friendly team and show sound organisational skills. The primary role will be to provide technical expertise within the department. The core hours of the department are 08:30 to 17:00 Monday to Friday.
Responsibilities
* The successful candidate will work across the full range of services provided by the Histology Department, including dissection/loading, embedding, microtomy, Special stains, and IHC.
* As a Specialist Biomedical Scientist the post holder will follow standard operating procedures, support the implementation of improved or best practice, and work in keeping with the laboratory quality management system. This will include the effective use of laboratory procedural and other records, maintenance of assets/analysers, and supporting with the resolution of corrective and preventative actions.
