About this Role
Job Title: Apprentice Speech and Language Therapist
Location: Walsall and surrounding areas
This four‑year degree apprenticeship offers a high‑quality, work‑based route to qualification. You will be employed within the Trust while studying towards a B.Sc. (Hons) Speech and Language Therapy, combining academic learning with real‑world clinical practice. The programme includes: one day per week on campus, one day for directed study or placement, and the remainder of the working week spent in your role, gaining valuable experience across a range of settings in line with professional requirements.
You will work across Mercian Trust schools as part of a supportive multidisciplinary clinical team, developing the knowledge, skills and behaviours needed to support children and young people with speech, language and communication needs. The role offers structured learning, varied placement experience, and the opportunity to apply learning directly to practice while being supported in your academic and professional development.

Responsibilities
* To commit to study during the duration of the apprenticeship course, working towards competence in line with Knowledge, Skills & Behaviours (KSB) as outlined in the KSB document in the following areas:
* Comprehensive communication and/or Dysphagia assessment of the individual patient (adults and children), including those with diverse or complex presentations; gaining relevant information by clinical examination, observation, questioning and discussion.
* Clinical reasoning to formulate a clinical diagnosis and agree personalised objectives.
* Formulating and delivering individual communication and/or Dysphagia care plans/programmes based on evidence‑based practice and treatment options using clinical skills.
* Evaluating patient progress, formulating a prognosis and adapting treatment programmes as required.
* Making informed clinical decisions including timely discharge planning and onward referral to other services.
* Ensuring competent use of SLT resources and safe use of equipment, including by others through teaching, training and supervision of practice.
Salary
Salary: £24,796.00
Qualifications and Skills
* All applicants will need a minimum of 112 UCAS points from 3 A levels or an equivalent Level 3 qualification.
* Excellent verbal and written skills
* Able to foster good working relationships with a variety of key stakeholders
