We are looking for an enthusiastic nurse who is keen to work at the leading edge of cardiothoracic practice in a fast-paced ward setting. Main duties of the job
Job summary:
1. The post holder will work closely with the ward manager and multi-disciplinary team members in monitoring and maintaining excellent clinical standards of nursing practice and staff development as part of the ward team. Also, act as a team leader to ensure the needs of the patients are met.
2. To be responsible for the continuing professional development and overall performance of all staff by acting as a mentor with the support of their senior colleagues.
3. To take charge of the ward/department on a regular basis.
4. The post holder is expected to carry out all relevant forms of care without direct supervision and is required to demonstrate procedures, supervise qualified and/or unqualified staff whilst maintaining a safe working environment
5. To be flexible in the approach to the clinical area and provide cover for any area specified.
Working for our organisation
Cedar Ward is a 24-bedded surgical ward caring for a range of patients pre and post complex cardiothoracic surgery. This surgery would include open and minimally invasive cardiac surgery including valve repair and replacement and Coronary Artery Bypass Grafts. The thoracic surgery would include lobectomies, pneumonectomies and minimally invasive procedures.
Our Practice Education Team will support you through a supernumerary period during your orientation to the ward. You will have the opportunity to attend in-house study days and regular surgical team days to support your learning and keep you up to date with current practice. Following orientation and completion of relevant competencies, you will have the opportunity to access university-based post-graduate courses.
