Fortress Recruit is supporting a leading technology and engineering solutions provider in their search for a Head of Engineering. This is a senior leadership role with strategic and operational responsibility for managing a multi‑disciplinary engineering function, delivering high‑integrity products and systems across diverse industrial sectors.
Key Responsibilities
* Leading and developing the Technical Services department, ensuring the team is structured, skilled, and resourced to meet business objectives and future growth.
* Providing leadership across mechanical, electrical, electronic, and software engineering disciplines, setting performance expectations and departmental OKRs.
* Overseeing delivery of multiple complex projects, ensuring on‑time, on‑budget completion and adherence to quality, safety, and compliance standards.
* Acting as design authority for system and product architecture from concept through to end‑of‑life, ensuring optimisation for reliability and manufacturability.
* Managing engineering budgets, resource allocation, and performance reporting to the senior management team.
* Championing technical excellence and innovation through mentoring, coaching, and continuous improvement initiatives.
* Supporting customer engagement, bid activity, and opportunity assessments to shape winning technical solutions.
* Ensuring compliance with ISO9001 processes and maintaining best‑practice engineering governance.
* Driving process enhancement, documentation control, and scalability to meet business growth objectives.
Qualifications and Requirements
* Minimum of 5 years in a senior engineering management or technical leadership role.
* Proven experience managing multi‑disciplinary teams within sectors such as Defence, Automation, Medical, Transport, Energy, or Communications.
* Strong technical understanding across mechanical, electrical, electronic, and software disciplines.
* Experience managing budgets and resources within a process‑driven, ISO9001 environment.
* Proven capability in NPI/NPD project management, product design compliance, and certification (CE, FCC, DNV, MIL‑STD, etc.).
* Strong commercial acumen and the ability to engage confidently with customers, suppliers, and internal stakeholders.
* Excellent leadership, communication, and organisational skills with a collaborative, proactive approach.
* A degree or equivalent qualification in an Engineering or related technical discipline.

This is a full‑time, permanent position based in Fareham, offering hybrid working flexibility. On offer is a salary of c80‑90K DoE, plus bonus and benefits package.
