Tailings / Geotechnical Engineer
Location: WSP, UK & Ireland
Overview
We are looking for a skilled Tailings / Geotechnical Engineer to join our global team. In this role you will contribute to landmark projects, work closely with mining and engineering specialists, and support the delivery of tailings management, heap leach facilities, water impoundments, waste rock dump design, soil mechanics, soil improvement and geosynthetic engineering worldwide.
Responsibilities
* Work as part of a diverse team of engineers, scientists and modellers from conceptual design through to detail design and engineering.
* Provide specialised technical input focused on tailings management facilities, heap leach facilities, water impoundments and waste rock dump design, soil mechanics, soil improvement methods, geosynthetic materials engineering and related civil engineering work for projects worldwide.
* Assist project managers in successful delivery of projects by managing own involvement in projects, including time, budget and quality control.
* Prepare technical reports, drawings, specifications, bill of quantities, and cost estimates.
* Travel within the UK and internationally to assist clients and support construction of WSP designs; overnight stays may be required for overseas travel.
* Develop and maintain good relationships with new and existing clients and represent WSP on site.
* Liaise with the Mining Team networks, participate in Europe’s Mining Team meetings and calls as required.
* Provide mentoring and coaching to graduate-level team members.
* Assist in business development activities, including preparation of technical proposals.
* Adhere to WSP Code of Conduct, safety policies and equality policies in all activities.
Qualifications
* Degree qualified in civil engineering, geotechnical engineering or engineering geology with a strong emphasis on soil mechanics.
* Knowledge of national and international design guidelines and regulations.
* Experience in mining and geotechnical fields relating to mine waste disposal/facilities.
* Ability to interpret and monitor results and use a variety of tools to monitor and design geotechnical structures.
* Practical and theoretical experience of project management and consultancy, including support for client relationships and project teams.
* Team‑working skills and willingness to collaborate in a multidisciplinary environment.
* Willingness to travel within the UK and internationally, including remote environments.
