Internal Redeployment Only - Lecturer in Law (Teaching and Research) School of Law and Politics The School of Law and Politics at Cardiff University is seeking to appoint a Lecturer (Grade 6) in Law. The successful candidate will be, or have the potential to be, an excellent teacher and scholar; and have obtained or be near completion of a postgraduate degree at PhD level in a related subject area, or equivalent professional expertise in Law or a cognate field by the time the appointment begins; and have an ambitious research agenda that supports and/or expands the School’s current research strengths. The specific area of legal research expertise and teaching within Law is AI/cybersecurity. The post holder may also supervise undergraduate and postgraduate students and contribute to the successful administration and management of the Law School. This post is full time (35 hours per week), open-ended and available immediately. To contribute to the School research community, pursuing excellence in research, published output, teaching and enterprise and inspiring others to do the same. Research • To conduct research involving the legal and ethical implications of AI/cybersecurity. • To contribute to the overall research performance of the School and University by the production of measurable outputs including bidding for funding, publishing in national academic journals and conferences and/or other research outputs, and the recruitment and supervision of postgraduate research students. Grade 7: contribute to internationally recognised research performance • To develop research objectives and proposals for own or joint research including research funding proposals Grade 7: independently develop research objectives, acting as PI as required • To give conference/seminar papers at a local and national level Grade 7: present at international level • To participate in School research activities. Teaching • To design and deliver teaching programmes for courses and contribute to module development as part of a module team, including teaching on at least one of EU law, Healthcare law, Land law or Equity and Trusts. Grade 7: independently contribute to module and course development and lead modules • To carry out other forms of scholarship including work associated with examinations (setting and marking paper and providing constructive feedback to students), administration, participation in committee work, and the pastoral care of students of Cardiff University. • To inspire undergraduate and postgraduate students under the guidance of a mentor / module leader and develop skills in assessment methods and in providing constructive feedback to students. To supervise the work of students including the supervision of Undergraduate and Master’s students and the co-supervision of PGR’s Grade 7: Acs as a PGR progress review panel member as required • To act as a Personal Tutor and provide pastoral support to students Other – all Grades • To engage effectively with industrial, commercial and public sector organisations, professional institutions, other academic institutions etc., regionally and nationally to raise awareness of the School’s profile, to cultivate strategically valuable alliances, and to pursue opportunities for collaboration across a range of activities.
