The Regional Transport Manager will provide strategic and operational leadership across Caledonian’s transport network. Reporting directly to the Head of Operations, you will oversee the effective and compliant running of the Washington, Hull, and Cleckheaton depots. You will lead and support Depot Managers to ensure efficient and reliable transport operations, strong cost control, high driver performance, safety excellence, and full regulatory compliance. This role is central to driving continuous improvement, operational consistency, and exceptional customer service across all locations. Key Responsibilities Oversee and coordinate transport operations across all depots, ensuring consistent service delivery, operational performance, and customer satisfaction. Lead, mentor, and develop Depot Managers, fostering a culture of collaboration, accountability, and professional growth. Ensure all transport functions meet agreed service levels, productivity targets, and cost-efficiency objectives. Implement group-wide transport policies, operational standards, and best-practice procedures across all depots. Ensure full compliance with all relevant transport legislation, including DVSA standards, O-licence undertakings, and Working Time Directive requirements. Oversee vehicle maintenance, inspection schedules, and compliance documentation to guarantee roadworthiness and regulatory adherence. Champion a strong safety-first culture, ensuring all depots embed Caledonian’s Health & Safety standards and proactive risk-management practices. Monitor, evaluate, and report on transport KPIs, including vehicle utilisation, logistics efficiency, on-time delivery performance, fuel usage, driver hours, and cost metrics. Carry out regular depot performance reviews, identifying improvement opportunities and supporting the implementation of corrective action plans. Lead investigations into operational incidents, ensuring root-cause analysis, corrective actions, and shared learning across all depots. Provide visible, hands-on leadership to Depot Managers and wider transport teams, offering coaching, guidance, and operational support. Support recruitment, onboarding, training, and continued development of transport personnel to build a skilled and motivated workforce. Strengthen engagement and communication between depots, promoting teamwork, shared goals, and consistent operational standards. Contribute to long-term transport strategy and planning to support organisational growth and service excellence. Identify and deliver improvements through technology adoption, process optimisation, and innovative transport solutions. Manage transport budgets effectively, achieving strong cost control without compromising service quality or operational performance. Work closely and communicate effectively with the wider Caledonian family to support aligned operational goals. Skills, Experience & Qualifications Proven experience in a senior transport management role, ideally covering multiple sites. Strong people-management and leadership skills, with experience supporting and developing Depot or Transport Managers. Comprehensive understanding of UK transport laws, regulations, and compliance frameworks. Excellent organizational and analytical abilities, with a proven track record of continuous improvement. Strong communication and influencing skills, effective at all organisational levels. CPC (Certificate of Professional Competence) in Road Transport – National and/or International. Full UK driving licence, with flexibility to travel regularly across the UK. Fully IT-competent and confident operating within a digital and technology-enabled transport environment.
