Free Range Pig Farm, Blythburgh (Suffolk Coast)
We're a family-run pig farm here in Blythburgh, out on the Suffolk coast, and we're looking for an extra pair of hands to join our outdoor breeding herd. The job is all about caring for our sows (the mums) and their new-born piglets, side by side with one of our experienced stockpeople.
The work is varied – feeding, bedding down with straw, fostering piglets, vaccinating, and plenty more. Some jobs are more attentive, others take a bit of graft, but it's all part of keeping the animals happy and healthy.
Life on the farm isn't always glamorous – you'll enjoy fresh air, open skies, and sunshine in the summer, but you'll also face rain, mud, and early mornings (and we won't lie, there's a fair bit of hard work involved). If the thought of an outdoor, hands-on job appeals more than sitting behind a desk, this could be the role for you.
The sort of person we're after:
* Reliable, if you say you're going to 'be at work' then 'be at work', otherwise your team mates have to pick the slack.
* A person who takes pride in doing a job properly and finishing tasks to a standard
* Willingness to learn – experience with animals is useful but not essential. If you've got the right attitude, we'll teach you the skills
Part of the role will also be the opportunity to learn how to drive tractors and telehandlers along the way.
Hours & routine:
* Around 45 hours a week
* Typical working day: 7:00am – 4:00pm (with an hour's unpaid break)
* Every Thursday: early start (around 3:00am), but you finish up earlier that day
* Every other weekend: roughly 4 hours on both days
* Some Bank Holiday work (the pigs don't stop for the calendar)

Blythburgh Pigs has been farming free range pigs for over 40 years, spanning two generations. We run two outdoor breeding herds and finish pigs in our own unique free range system. We're proud of the pork we produce – it's sought after by butchers and chefs across the country who value quality and tradition.
