Job Details: Volunteer Activity Lead - North Devon

Waythrough launched in October 2024 following the merger of Humankind and Richmond Fellowship. Our vision is to break down the barriers that stop people getting the support they need to live a life they value. We tackle poverty and disadvantage in communities, through mental health, drug and alcohol, housing and related support.

We have almost 200 services around England – and nearly 3,500 amazing staff and volunteers who run them. Every year our services support around 125,000 people.

Bringing together two big organisations is not a small task and it’ll take a while to fully integrate our systems, processes and approaches. That’s why you will notice the jobs here are still branded ‘Humankind’. Next year we’ll be fully integrating our recruitment systems but for now they are separate.

Volunteer Activity Lead
Location: Barnstaple

Flourish in Nature sits within Together Drug and Alcohol Services, the commissioned community drug and alcohol provision for Devon. Together Drug and Alcohol Services provides a range of support, interventions and treatments for those wanting to make positive changes to their drug and/or alcohol use, as well raising awareness and supporting family members.
We know how isolating addiction and substance misuse can be for people, so we aim to build supportive and resilient recovery communities by offering a range of indoor and outdoor activities, workshops and cafes that are safe recovery focused spaces and welcoming and inclusive for all.

About the role
Do you have a passion for the outdoors and personal experience of the benefits that physical activity, nature connection and being with others can have on a person’s wellbeing? If so, we’d love to hear from you!

We’re excited to be recruiting for our next round of Volunteer Activity Leads with Flourish in Nature. This project aims to improve mental and physical wellbeing by encouraging people to (re)connect with nature and the world around them through in-house, peer/volunteer-led activities as well as outsourced activities from local providers. The project supports social inclusion, personal and community development, and boosts people’s sense of belonging and feelings of personal achievement.

These roles are ideally suited to people with lived experience of mental health or addiction recovery. Full training is provided, including recognised First Aid certificates. You would be joining a supportive, recovery focussed, community development team. Opportunities are also available to combine this role with ‘in-house’ activity support such as Flourish Recovery Cafes and creative groups.

Tasks you may be involved in:

* Promote Flourish in Nature activities
* Identify potential community activities
* Be a point of contact for community activity providers
* Risk assess group activities and complete risk assessment paperwork
* Attend activities in a position of responsibility, assessing whether it is safe for attendee’s to participate in the activity
* Alongside other Activity Lead Volunteers, run and supervise activities
* Identify and report any concerns, risks, or incidents to Community Development Leads or duty managers.
Please see the full job description here.

We welcome volunteers from a range of backgrounds and circumstances and while we ask that you can commit to between 8-16 hours a month, we will decide together on regular volunteering hours that suit your circumstances following successful interview. For example, this could be 2-4 hours per week, 4 hours a fortnight, or 1 day a month.

As a volunteer with Waythrough, you can expect to receive:
* Regular supervision and support
* Induction and access to online and face to face training
* To learn and practice new skills within a teamwork setting
* To feel part of a team and the wider Waythrough organisation
* Reasonable travel expenses reimbursed with proof of journey
* Opportunities to progress and experience other areas of Waythrough's work
