The Role
Purpose:
Support access to learning for children and provide support to the class teacher/senior staff in the management of children in the classroom or any setting where teaching and learning takes place.
Teaching Assistant Agreed Framework Requirements
Indicative tasks at competency level specified within the Teaching Assistant agreed Framework will serve as reference points for responsibilities below.
Competences, roles, and responsibilities of all Teaching & Learning Assistants:
* Support the positive ethos and aims of our school
* Work closely with the class teacher to contribute to pupil behaviour management and maintaining an appropriate working environment, including implementation of behaviour policies
* Handle emotionally demanding behaviour and situations as necessary to meet each child's needs
* Work with children who have extreme behavioural issues or severe disabilities, including physical intervention if necessary
* Establish and promote productive relationships with pupils, acting as a role model and setting high expectations
* Promote inclusion for all pupils
* Liaise with teachers and relevant agencies regarding work set for a class/group
* Prepare and set out learning materials
* Contribute to planning of learning activities
* Plan, deliver, and monitor responses to learning activities, adapting as needed to achieve learning outcomes
* Establish relationships and communicate with parents and professionals to support pupil learning and progress
* Communicate work set by teachers clearly to pupils and ensure understanding of expectations
* Encourage cooperation among pupils
* Provide marking and feedback within lessons as per school policy
* Evaluate pupil performance and report to teachers
* Update relevant records regularly
* Record and report on children's development, progress, and attainment
* Maintain pupils' health, safety, and welfare
* Support social and emotional development of pupils
* Handle emergencies according to school policies
* Utilize IT effectively to support learning
* Support English, Maths, and communication access for all pupils
* Assist visiting students under teacher direction
* Support development and implementation of SEN targets
* Identify pupils needing additional support and develop interventions
* Participate in educational visits
* Uphold school policies and legislation
* Participate in professional development and maintain a CPD/Learning Log
* Perform relevant administrative duties
* Engage in appraisals and maintain confidentiality

Qualifications
Qualification Grade
NVQ 2 for Teaching Assistants or equivalent Essential
GCSE C or above in English & Maths Essential
First Aid Qualification Desirable
Specialist SEN training (PECS, Makaton, TEACCH, behaviour management) Desirable
