Overview

USU Eastern Upward Bound is a federally funded grant program designed to encourage postsecondary preparation of high school students who are from low-income families and are first-generation college bound students. We serve 60 high school students from Grand, Emery and Carbon counties during the school year and 30 high school students from Grand, Emery and Carbon counties in our summer program. During a six week summer program, approximately 30 Upward Bound students experience intensive academic, cultural, and social expansion while living in the residence halls at USU Eastern.

The students will be attending class beginning May 26th, 2026 and will continue through June 24th, 2026. Classes will be held from 8:30. to 5:00. with a lunch break and a study hall in between classes. Each teacher will teach up to 30 students in grades 9-12 for one hour a day, four days a week (Monday-Thursday).

We are looking for teachers who are qualified to teach:

1. MATH
2. LANGUAGE ARTS
3. SCIENCE
4. FOREIGN LANGUAGE
5. PHYSICAL EDUCATION

Responsibilities

7. Create hands on curriculum for up to 30 students who are in grades 9-12 in class instruction, four days (M-TH) a week from May 26th, 2026 - June 24th, 2026.
8. Grading responsibilities after regular teaching hours.
9. Engage students in the learning process and get them excited about your course
10. Help prepare students for college, steer them toward collegiate opportunities.
11. Mentor high school students, and encourage a love of learning.

Upward Bound Summer 2026 Teacher works indoors in a provided classroom for one hour per day, Monday through Thursday, over a five-week period. The work environment is climate-controlled with typical classroom noise and regular interaction with high school students (8th-12th grades) and Upward Bound staff. Physical demands are light and include standing and walking during instruction, sitting for planning, light lifting of materials, and frequent use of hands for writing or operating classroom technology. Mental demands include planning and delivering engaging lessons, maintaining classroom management, monitoring student safety and behavior, adapting instruction as needed, and sustaining focus and clear communication throughout each instructional period. Time after class may be needed for any students requiring additional instruction, as well.
