We’re working on behalf of a UK-based manufacturing business involved in the design and production of engineered structures and technology enclosures used in public and commercial environments. Due to continued growth, they’re seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer to join their multidisciplinary team.
This is a great opportunity to take ownership of full-cycle design work across a range of fabricated products - combining aesthetics with functionality and real-world performance.
Key Responsibilities
* Produce accurate 2D and 3D CAD models and technical drawings for manufacturing and assembly
* Prepare documentation for client sign-off, production, and on-site installation
* Create and manage Bills of Materials (BOMs) in collaboration with electrical and fabrication teams
* Work within structured processes and internal data management systems
* Solve technical and practical design challenges related to cost, materials, transport, and buildability
* Liaise with internal departments to ensure designs are production-ready and installation-friendly
* Provide updates on design progress and flag potential risks to timelines or budgets
* Support improvement initiatives across design, production, and quality control functions
What You’ll Need
* Experience working in a mechanical design role, ideally within fabrication, manufacturing, or industrial product development
* Strong CAD proficiency (AutoCAD, Inventor, SolidWorks or similar)
* A background in metal structures, enclosures, or engineered products is highly desirable
* Good understanding of manufacturing techniques and design-for-production principles
* Organised, self-motivated and able to manage multiple live projects
* Collaborative mindset with strong attention to detail
* Comfortable working cross-functionally with production, engineering, and procurement
Desirable Qualifications
* HNC/HND or degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field
* Familiarity with PDM systems and structured design documentation
* CSCS Card or CDM-related training (not essential)
