Role Description
NextGen Teachers are recruiting a committed and compassionate 1:1 Behaviour Support Assistant to support a child in Reception with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs.
This child needs a consistent, strong, and nurturing adult who can help them feel secure, regulate their emotions, and engage in early learning through play and structured routines. You'll be their steady presence — a role model, advocate, and source of safety as they navigate school life.
Key Responsibilities-
* Provide 1:1 support to a Reception-aged child with behavioural and emotional needs
* Help the child engage in EYFS learning activities through structured play and routine
* Use age-appropriate strategies to support emotional regulation and behaviour
* Build a trusting, secure relationship through consistency and patience
* Support the child in managing transitions, following routines, and interacting with peers
* Work closely with the class teacher, SENCO, and outside professionals to implement support plans
* Reflect on what works and adapt strategies until something resonates with the child and you see progress
We're looking for someone who is:
* Resilient and strong-willed, with the confidence to manage challenging behaviours calmly
* Patient and persistent, with a "don't give up" attitude — even on the tough days
* Flexible and creative, willing to try different approaches until something truly resonates with the child and you can see a real difference
* Passionate about helping children who need extra support to thrive
This is a challenging but deeply fulfilling role — perfect for someone who finds purpose in helping children overcome barriers and believes every child deserves to feel seen, safe, and successful.
* If you're ready to be that person for a child who truly needs it, we'd love to hear from you.
