We are working on behalf of our client, a leading high-technology engineering business, to recruit a Mechanical Assembly Technician to join their specialist production team.
This is an exciting opportunity to work in a cutting-edge environment, contributing to the build of highly complex UHV (Ultra High Vacuum) systems used in advanced scientific and industrial applications.
The Role
As a Mechanical Assembly Technician, you will play a key role in assembling precision mechanical and electrical components within a UHV cleanroom environment. You’ll be working on intricate sub-assemblies, ensuring the highest standards of quality, cleanliness, and performance.
Key responsibilities include:
Building complex mechanical and electrical assemblies from detailed engineering drawings
Carrying out specialist UHV-compatible wiring and electrical testing
Maintaining strict UHV cleanroom standards for all components and assemblies
Recording pre-test data and performing quality control evaluations
Supporting the introduction of new products from NPI into production
Creating and updating manufacturing documentation and work instructions
Maintaining accurate production records, including test data and serialisation for traceability
Occasional travel to client sites for meetings, visits, or project support (expenses covered)
About You
We’re looking for someone who combines technical skill with a high level of precision and attention to detail.
You will ideally have:
Experience in a high-tech or cleanroom manufacturing environment
A background in low-volume, high-specification or customised product assembly
Strong mechanical assembly skills, including precision hand fitting and specialist wiring
An understanding of UHV systems or instrumentation (highly advantageous)
Familiarity with electron optics or ion optics (desirable but not essential)
Basic IT skills, including Microsoft Office
Qualifications
Engineering qualification (HND/HNC/Degree in Mechanical, Electromechanical or similar)
OR time-served apprenticeship / qualified by experience
Mechanical Engineering Level 3 (or equivalent)
