The Credit Manager Role
As Credit Manager, you’ll report directly to the Head of Credit and play a pivotal role in the continued evolution of the credit function.
You’ll lead from the front — managing day‑to‑day credit decisions, overseeing a small underwriting team, and ensuring each deal is assessed with precision and commercial awareness. It’s a hands‑on role with plenty of visibility and the opportunity to influence process improvements and help shape the lender’s credit strategy as it scales.
Key Responsibilities
* Manage and mentor a team of underwriters, ensuring consistent and high‑quality credit decisions.
* Oversee the assessment and approval of bridging, refurbishment, and development finance cases.
* Support the Head of Credit with policy updates, credit papers, and case reviews.
* Review and analyse borrower financials, property valuations, and exit strategies.
* Liaise with brokers, solicitors, and surveyors to ensure smooth deal progression.
* Identify process improvements to enhance speed, efficiency, and risk management.
* Act as a senior escalation point for complex or high‑value cases.
Skills & Experience Required
* Strong background in bridging or development finance underwriting.
* Sound understanding of credit risk, due diligence, and loan structuring.
* Experience assessing property development appraisals, borrower financials, and exit strategies.
* Confident communicator with the ability to make clear, commercial credit decisions.
* Motivated, detail‑oriented, and comfortable working in a fast‑paced, entrepreneurial setting.
* Some previous leadership or mentoring experience (formal or informal) preferred.
