Overview
We are seeking a Manager to lead the Environment Agency’s Economic Crime Unit (ECU), part of the National Environmental Crime Unit (NECU). The ECU is a specialist team dedicated to removing the financial benefit from criminals. The role is hybrid (home and office), with travel across the country for meetings and operational duties. Responsibilities
* Provide strategic leadership for financial investigations in line with the Proceeds of Crime Act (POCA) and drive continual improvement in how the ECU operates.
* Directly manage two Team Leaders (Asset Denial Team and Money Laundering Investigation Team) and a Senior Financial Intelligence Officer, including performance management and development of staff.
* Collaborate with internal teams (Investigatory Teams, Intelligence & Partnerships, Legal) and external partners (Police, National Crime Agency, HMRC) to influence senior stakeholders and ensure EA priorities are recognised by enforcement agencies.
* Support the wider organisation by sharing lessons learned, contributing to technical documentation, and advising enforcement officers nationwide on POCA.
* Contribute to the broader team across the ECU which comprises two teams: Asset Denial Team and Money Laundering Investigations Team, including Financial Investigators, Financial Intelligence Officers and Crime Analysts.
* Contribute to the management of crime prevention and the handling of serious, complex criminal activity involving organised crime networks.
Experience / Qualifications
* Exceptionally strong leadership skills, ideally with experience leading a dispersed team.
* Good understanding of financial investigations and the Proceeds of Crime Act (POCA).
* Experience in:
o Working in the law enforcement sector and understanding the National Intelligence Model
o Effective communication including delivering feedback, managing performance, and building relationships with external stakeholders
o Working under pressure and prioritising a varied workload
o Identifying areas for improvement and leading changes to working practices
o Developing and enhancing the capability of a team and its individuals

This is a hybrid working role with flexible arrangements from home and your nearest office. There may be travel across the country for meetings and operational duties. An incident response role is part of the job, and you may be required to respond to incidents or provide business continuity support during incidents (potential additional payment). Training and workplace adjustments are available.
