Join to apply for the Mammographer/ Mammographer Trainee role at Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust
The Nightingale Centre has vacancies for full/part-time Mammographers to join their friendly and busy breast radiology multi-professional team. We offer a modern diagnostic and treatment service across both the Nightingale Centre and NMGH. MFT also co-ordinates the NHS breast screening program (NHSBSP) for the Manchester area. The Nightingale Centre is an NHSBSP National Training Centre and home to the National Breast Imaging Academy (NBIA).
Our department is committed to Radiographer role extension and CPD. We have Advanced Practitioners undertaking stereo interventional procedures and film-reading, Mammography Associates performing screening and symptomatic mammography, plus Clinical Expert Radiographers specialising in advanced breast imaging.
The Manchester BSP covers a wide geographical area, so willingness to travel to all screening sites is essential. A flexible approach to work is required, as weekend and evening sessions are often scheduled to meet the expanding screening population and symptomatic workload.
You must have HCPC registration as a Radiographer and be a UK resident. A Postgraduate Award in Mammography is preferable; however, training will be considered for the right applicant (Band 5 whilst in training).
We encourage informal visits to a mobile screening unit and/or the department to discuss the post in more detail.
The post involves assisting in the provision and delivery of the NHS BSP, including well woman screening mammography on the target population to National Standards, on both mobile and static units. Additional responsibilities include Family History screening, assessment, follow-up, symptomatic mammography, stereo-tactic interventional, and MRI biopsy procedures.
Supervision and training of students, trainee Mammographers, and Assistant Practitioners are required. A mammographer is expected to produce high-quality images safely and compassionately, working within a multidisciplinary team to provide excellent patient care.
MFT is one of the largest NHS Trusts in England, with a turnover of over £3bn. We are creating an integrated health and social care system for the 1 million patients relying on our services annually. We bring together 10 hospitals and community services across Manchester, Trafford, and beyond, fostering collaborative working and innovation. Our digital initiatives, including the Hive Electronic Patient Record system launched in September 2022, aim to improve clinical quality and operational efficiency.
We are also a major academic Research Centre and Education provider, supporting high-quality research programs. Our Green Plan emphasizes sustainability in healthcare.
At MFT, we promote inclusion, equal opportunities, and staff wellbeing, shaping the future of our organization together.
