The post holder will lead the delivery of the Martha’s rule improvement programme workstreams in alignment with the Trust’s Strategic Priorities. The core elements of the role include:

· Project and programme management

· Service improvement and redesign skills

· Facilitation and communication expertise

· Building staff capability for improvement through training, coaching, and mentoring.

The exact nature of day-day tasks depends on the stages of the workstreams. However, all workstreams will involve updating project documentation, facilitating conversations and workshops, and the use of quality improvement tools and methodologies.


Main duties of the job

The Patient Safety Team is a corporate service established to support the Trust in delivering our strategic vision for patient safety using insight, involvement and improvement. This post focusses on improvement through a structured programme of improvement, innovation and service re-design.

The post holder is responsible for delivery of Martha’s Rule across UHBW but the role involves close working with colleagues at NBT to align the implementation of Martha’s Rule across both Trusts.

Person specification


Qualifications and Training

* Educated to degree level/relevant professional qualification or equivalent relevant experience
* Project Management Qualification or significant experience of managing projects
* Highly developed specialist knowledge in change management /improvement methodology, through post graduate qualification, or significant experience of working at similar level
* Evidence of continuing professional development
* QI and/or Lean Six Sigma qualification and/or training


Skills and abilities

* Excellent interpersonal skills
* Able to design and facilitate events, and translate outputs into tangible deliverables
* Able to engage, lead and influence others to adopt new working practices
* Proven problem solving skills – ability to review processes and systems, and develop solutions to resolve issues
* Analytical skills – ability to identify, gather, and interpret complex data for improvement projects, and present it clearly to a wide range of individuals and organisations
* Able to use a range of IT application, including Microsoft Office products using a standard keyboard
* Ability to supervise project team members, and delegate required work
* Ability to use improvement and project management tools
* Strong communication skills – verbal, written and presentational
* Decision making skills for leading and delivering improvement projects
* Ability to work with staff and service users in a variety of settings
