Locum Consultant Cardiologist Electrophysiologist

The successful candidate will join a team of four Electrophysiology Consultants at Blackpool Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, contributing to the Electrophysiology service of the Lancashire Cardiac Centre (LCC). The LCC serves a population of 1.8 million across the Lake District, South Cumbria, Lancashire, the Fylde Coast, Blackpool, Preston, The Ribble Valley, Blackburn and Burnley.
There are two cath labs dedicated to EP out of five labs available, with an annual volume of approximately 800 procedures. The post holder is expected to independently perform both simple and complex electrophysiology procedures using the unit’s three mapping systems – Biosense Webster, Abbott and Boston Scientific – and single‑shot technologies such as Cryo and Laser Balloon Ablation. Further skill development will be supported.
Teaching and research are valued. The successful candidate will contribute to weekly teaching and supervision of trainees.
The cardiology department provides a regional tertiary service. In addition to EP duties, the post holder will deliver general cardiology consultations on a rotational basis and provide weekend cover as part of a seven‑day consultant‑led service.

Clinical
Except in emergencies or where otherwise agreed with your clinical manager, you are responsible for fulfilling the duties and responsibilities and undertaking the programmed activities set out in your new Job Plan. The plan is reviewed annually.

About us
The Cardiac Unit comprises the Cardiothoracic Unit and the Cardiology Directorate. It is housed in a £50 million purpose‑built hospital with four catheter laboratories, four cardiac and thoracic theatres, a dedicated outpatient and non‑invasive cardiac physiology investigation unit, 20 day‑case beds, 20 cardiac intensive care beds and 89 ward beds. The Cardiology Directorate includes two wards (37 and 39) for cardiology patients and four catheter laboratories with day‑case facilities.
Person Specification
Education and Qualification
* Full registration with the General Medical Council or relevant professional regulator
* MB ChB or equivalent
* MRCP or equivalent
* Sub‑specialty training in Electrophysiology
Experience and Knowledge
* Awareness of NHS organisation and core values of NHS
Skills and Ability
* Excellent communication skills – oral and written in English
* Ability to organise, prioritise workload, delegate responsibility and supervise staff
* Effective teaching skills
* Ability to motivate and inspire a multidisciplinary team and work sensitively within teams and across organisations
* Evidence of service development and managing change in a healthcare setting
