About the Role
As a Health & Safety Manager, you’ll play a key role in supporting safe, compliant and people‑first operations at our Stafford Distribution Centre. This is a fully onsite position, offering real visibility, influence and the opportunity to make a tangible impact day‑to‑day.
You’ll be a trusted partner to managers and colleagues across the site, providing expert advice, coaching safe behaviours and helping embed a strong, proactive health & safety culture. From leading inspections and investigations to supporting training, audits and regulatory visits, you’ll help ensure health & safety is fully integrated into how the Stafford DC operates.
As the Distribution Centre operates 24/7, this role will require a degree of flexibility to ensure effective health & safety support across different shifts and operational needs.
This is a hands‑on role suited to someone who enjoys being close to operations, building strong relationships on site, and driving continuous improvement in a fast‑paced distribution environment.
Key Responsibilities
1. Act as the first point of contact for health & safety advice at the Stafford Distribution Centre.
2. Provide expert guidance to managers and colleagues, ensuring compliance with UK legislation and company standards.
3. Promote a proactive, people‑first safety culture through coaching, engagement and training.
4. Support and maintain compliance with LOLER, PUWER, fire safety requirements and SEMA racking standards.
5. Lead site inspections, risk assessments and safe systems of work, ensuring actions are followed through.
6. Investigate accidents and incidents, identify trends and recommend effective preventative actions.
7. Maintain accurate reporting and provide regular health & safety performance updates to senior leadership.
8. Manage and support regulatory visits, liaising with Environmental Health Officers, Fire Officers and other external bodies.
9. Support emergency preparedness, first aid provision and required health & safety training onsite.
10. Lead and contribute to safety committees and continuous improvement initiatives.
11. Review and support the upkeep of health & safety policies, procedures and management systems.
12. Work collaboratively with Distribution, Facilities and other teams to embed safe working practices.
About You
Qualifications
13. NVQ Level 6 or 7 in Health & Safety, or
14. NEBOSH General Certificate or NEBOSH Diploma (or working towards)
Skills & Experience
15. Proven experience in a Health & Safety role within a warehouse or distribution environment.
16. Strong working knowledge of UK health & safety legislation and regulatory requirements.
17. Confident communicator with the ability to influence and build relationships at all levels.
18. Practical, analytical and solutions‑focused approach to risk management.
19. Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage your own workload effectively.
20. Good IT skills, including Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
21. Knowledge of SEMA racking standards and fire safety requirements (desirable).
