Job overview
This is a developmental post requiring willingness to undertake advanced practice modules or work toward an accredited pathway in which to fully achieve the following: -Under supervision and support of the Lead Trauma Nurse Coordinator and Matron, the post holder will provide constant, high-quality continuity to the Plastics and burns team for the trauma cohort. Working in-line with the junior doctors under the supervision of the Consultant.
Using a background of Plastics Surgery and Burns Nursing, the post holder will continue to develop skills in the development of best individualised patient care pathways. The role requires the candidate to have a willingness to work towards enhanced practice.
The development of history taking, clinical examination,interpretation and subsequently the diagnosis and personalized management planning of the patient specific to the clinical specialty of Plastic surgery and Burns.
The post holder will act as a senior nurse within the Plastic Surgery and Burns Trauma service, a highly visible role,accessible to patients, carers and staff for assistance advice and support to both Trauma and Elective patients in all sub specialty teams
Main duties of the job
1. Responsible for the coordination of the Plastic Surgery trauma services
2. liasing with the emergency department and other outside referrers regarding admissions to plastics,
3. attend the daily trauma meeting and liase with ANP regarding overnight admissions and location of the patients.
4. take lead responsibility for producing the daily Trauma whiteboard spreadsheet for the MDT meeting
5. Ensuring patient episodes are appropriately coded and recorded.
6. Liaise with various health care professionals to ensure that each patient’s hospital episode is managed in the most effective and efficient way, in line with the Trust strategy on patient-centred care
7. Plan date of surgery and ensure relevant investigations are carried out in timely fashion
8. Facilitate scheduling of patients awaiting Plastics trauma whilst ensuing effective utilisation of theatre sessions, minimize cancelations and optimise pre-operative pathways (assessments and scheduling)
9. Assist in the data collection on Plastics trauma pathways by means of quantitative/qualitative audit, on-going monitoring, and general feedback
10. Maintain close liaison with patients, carers, families and next of kins
11. Prioritise workload and liaise closely with on call team
12. The post holder will be responsible for managing the flow of trauma patients from point of referral, assessment, admission, surgery and discharge.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
13. Working with the staff on plastics ward and outlying wards to arrange admissions, improve length of stay and patient experience.
14. The post holder will need to triage referrals and arrange reviews as needed, arrange suitable theatre times and ensuring all pre-op tests have been carried out and act on any abnormalities.
The post holder will see and treat patients in a review clinic and will be instrumental in running this clinic.
