Overview
Landscape Manager role at Arnos Vale Cemetery Trust. Arnos Vale is a Victorian Garden Cemetery in the heart of Bristol, a 45-acre green space where communities come together, balancing heritage, wellbeing, wildlife and visitor access.
We are a small charity running income-generating events, an in-house café, shop, venue hire and weddings. You will manage Arnos Vale’s diverse landscape, ensuring visitor access and nature are in balance, using the Landscape Management Plan and annual work plans. You will lead and work with landscape volunteers and help support other departments as needed.
Responsibilities
* Manage Arnos Vale’s diverse landscape and ensure visitor access and nature balance, using the Landscape Management Plan and annual work plans.
* Lead and participate in volunteer sessions; share knowledge and passion with a diverse group of volunteers.
* Provide flexible support to other departments as needed (e.g., preparing cremation interments, assisting with Christmas trees, leading meetings).
* Promote biodiversity and conservation through community engagement and public programmes.
Qualifications and Experience
* Qualified and experienced in chainsaw use: NPTC 201 (formerly CS30) and NPTC 202 (formerly CS31).
* Clear passion for nature conservation and biodiversity; experience sharing this with the community and volunteers.
* Experience of working with and supervising volunteers.
* A range of practical landscape maintenance and nature conservation skills in a physically demanding role.
* Experience using outdoor machinery (e.g., strimmer, hedge-trimmer).
* Excellent communication and people skills; able to motivate and engage a wide range of individuals.
* Good time management and organisational skills.
* Self-motivated, proactive; able to work unsupervised or as part of a team; able to follow and implement instructions.
* Interest in vocational qualifications and training.
* Comfortable working in a cemetery; full UK driving licence.
* Qualified and experienced in Use of Chainsaw from a rope and harness (CS39) and Dismantling and Rigging (NPTC CS41).
* Experience as a volunteer in the nature conservation sector.
* Knowledge of ash dieback disease and ecological monitoring techniques.
* Skilled in maintaining tools and equipment.

30 hours per week, working alternative Saturdays. Working outside of normal hours, including travel, may be required.
