The Role
Our Research Development Managers are pivotal in supporting research. You will actively support research project development at all stages, from concept generation to bid submission. You will help develop researchers and their projects, support research leadership in embedding strategies to improve research performance, and help achieve strategic research income targets.
You will serve as a key advisor across disciplines and professional services, working proactively. Your remit will include export control. This role is ideal for someone passionate about research, seeking experience in research projects, processes, and policies. You will work independently and within a strong, well-integrated team. Our research spans STEM and SHAPE fields.
The Person
You should be capable, enthusiastic, self-starting, and interested in various aspects of research. You must be highly organized, detail-oriented, and possess strong financial literacy and numeracy skills.
Significant relevant experience in Higher Education and research support or similar roles is required, along with knowledge of research funding and strategic issues. Excellent interpersonal, influencing, communication, and IT skills are essential. You should be able to work with colleagues at all levels and build strong relationships across diverse backgrounds. A degree-level education is required; compatibility with research strengths is advantageous.

The Academic Services Directorate includes Research & Impact, Knowledge Exchange, Academic Registry, Quality Assurance and Enhancement, and the Learning and Teaching Enhancement Centre. It supports research, impact, knowledge exchange, governance, academic policies, quality standards, and educational development across the university.
The Directorate promotes cutting-edge research, impact, and knowledge exchange, supporting graduate research students and increasing research visibility and revenue. It collaborates with institutes, faculties, and researchers, providing training and fostering interdisciplinary work to generate new revenue and regional prosperity. Its goal is to sustain a vibrant research culture where researchers and students thrive.
