Salary: Circa £45,000
What You’ll Be Doing:
As a vital member of our team, you will:
* Support the development of Naval Shock Requirements, ensuring they are clearly defined and effectively communicated to systems, equipment, and suppliers.
* Manage and maintain Verification and Validation evidence to demonstrate compliance with Naval Shock Requirements throughout the product lifecycle.
* Review and assess shock qualification evidence from suppliers and internal teams, ensuring robustness and technical credibility.
* Conduct detailed stress assessments of equipment and structural components under pseudo-static shock loading, identifying risks and recommending mitigations.
* Support planning and execution of shock testing activities, including defining loading conditions and reviewing test results.
* Apply internal processes rigorously, producing clear, auditable evidence of compliance through formal calculations and technical reports.
* Contribute to early identification and resolution of technical issues, supporting continuous improvement and risk reduction.
Your Skills and Experiences:
Essential:
* A degree in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related STEM discipline.
* A solid understanding of structural mechanics and dynamics principles, with the ability to apply them to real-world engineering challenges.
* Knowledge of material strength behavior, including elastic and plastic properties, and their influence on structural performance.
Desirable:
* Familiarity with Finite Element Analysis (FEA) tools and techniques for structural assessment.
* Exposure to Fluid-Structure Interaction (FSI) concepts.
* A clear ambition to work towards professional chartership, with a commitment to ongoing technical and professional development.

The Shock Transversal Team:
The Shock Transversal team is crucial in ensuring a vessel's functionality after experiencing shock loading from Naval Underwater Explosion Events (UNDEX). As a Senior Structural Engineer – Shock & Dynamics, you will:
* Engage in hands-on engineering analysis, including structural calculations and FEA.
* Assess historical and empirical evidence and participate in specialist Naval Shock Testing.
* Collaborate with a diverse range of internal and external stakeholders, providing expert shock design guidance.
You'll also benefit from strong mentorship and development opportunities to grow your expertise in this specialized and impactful engineering field. Relocation support is available for all Submarine roles, subject to eligibility criteria.
