Job Summary
Full-time Consultant Psychiatrist to work in the Crisis Resolution/Home Treatment Team at the Crisis Care Centre, Harplands Hospital, Stoke. The team includes managers, prescribers, clinicians, and support staff. The role will consist of 10 PAs (adjustable). The post holder works closely with acute care consultants, passionate about alternatives to hospital admission and early facilitated discharge.
Main Duties of the Job
* Contribute to specialist mental health assessment for patients, including history, intellectual and developmental disabilities, substance misuse, psychosocial factors, and risk to self and others.
* Provide a diagnosis and clinical formulation, including presenting problem and predisposing, precipitating, perpetuating and protective factors.
* Regular participation in multidisciplinary team meetings and supervision of junior medical staff.
* Liaise with Community Mental Health Teams through the Care Programme Approach.
* Involve in up‑to‑date, evidence‑based care planning, diagnosis and treatment, including prescribing.
* Offer evidence‑based pharmacological and psychological interventions.
* Perform capacity/competence assessments.
* Maintain good working relationships with local primary care and other agencies.
* Attend team meetings, support service development, provide clinical leadership and governance.
* Actively involved in strategic development of the team and broader services.

Job Responsibilities
* Manage, appraise, and supervise junior medical staff in accordance with Trust policies.
* Ensure junior staff comply with the New Deal and Working Time Directive.
* Perform administrative duties and keep accurate clinical records in Lorenzo (Electronic Patient Record).
* Record and submit clinical activity to the Information Department.
* Participate in service and business planning for the locality and the wider mental health service.
* Participate in annual consultant appraisal and internal CPD programmes.
* Maintain professional registration with the General Medical Council, Mental Health Act Section 12(2) approval and comply with professional codes.
* Engage in annual job plan reviews and contribute to financial management and service planning.
* Adhere to Trust policies on data security and personal/procedural safety.
Person Specification
Essential Qualifications
* MBBS or equivalent medical qualification.
Essential Experience
* Excellent knowledge in speciality, clinical skills using bio‑psycho‑social perspective and wide medical knowledge.
* Excellent oral and written communication skills in English.
* Ability to manage clinical complexity and uncertainty, making evidence‑based decisions.
* Experience in meeting duties under MHA and MCA.
