PROPOSED SALARY RANGE: £67,000 - £89,000 depending on relevant skills, knowledge and experience. The expected salary range for this role reflects internal benchmarking and external market insights.

PURPOSE OF THE ROLE
This is a unique opportunity to lead BBC Weather into an exciting new era, as we launch our groundbreaking partnership with the Met Office. You'll lead the team day-to-day, driving innovation across digital platforms, and ensuring our content reaches audiences everywhere on TV and radio too. Your leadership will help deliver accurate, engaging weather coverage that informs, connects, and inspires millions every day.

YOUR KEY RESPONSIBILITES AND IMPACT
•
Lead the daily editorial for BBC Weather, during this period of transformation.
•
Direct daily teams to deliver text and video coverage for digital platforms, alongside TV and radio output.
•
Maintain the highest editorial standards, ensuring our reporting and forecasting is clearly framed, featuring the best of our BBC Weather expertise.
•
Drive innovation in digital storytelling and social media engagement.
•
Oversee continuous coverage while balancing medium- and long-term priorities.
•
Use analytics to shape journalism that reaches existing and new audiences.
•
Champion diversity, inclusion, and organisational change across the team.
YOUR SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE - KEY CRITERIA
Essential:
•
Significant experience directing daily news teams for digital platforms, as well as TV and radio.
•
Excellent news judgement under pressure with ability to spot sharp top lines and drive the agenda.
•
Proven leadership experience in a fast-paced news environment.
•
Clear understanding of digital analytics and how to use them to shape journalism; alongside demonstrable knowledge of social media trends and emerging digital platforms.
•
Ability to lead continuous coverage while driving strategic priorities.
•
Strong editorial judgement and decision-making under pressure.
•
Proven track record of driving organisational and cultural change, improving diversity and inclusion.
•
Ability to build close relationships with teams across BBC News.
Desirable:
•
Experience in weather, science, or specialist journalism.
•
Strong stakeholder management and collaboration skills.
•
Understanding of audience behaviour and data-driven content strategies.
•
Track record of fostering creativity and innovation in teams.
