Part Time Head of Finance & HR – Godalming, Surrey
£24,000 (for 22.5 hours per week) plus benefits
We are recruiting for a highly impactful and inclusive Charity who are looking for a Part Time Head of Finance & HR to work 22.5 hours per week. The Head of Finance & HR will be part of the Leadership Team and play a pivotal role in ensuring the long-term financial stability of their organisation. They will be working with a Finance Assistant to oversee day today financial operations maintain robust financial management, and ensure resources are used wisely and effectively. They will also oversee all aspects of HR, from recruitment to offboarding.
The charity has a strong product development and retail arm, led by the CEO and Commercial Head. In this role, you will work closely with them, providing financial analysis to guide their sales stream decisions. You’ll bring a positive, can-do attitude, financial acumen, and a genuine care for people and purpose.
The ideal candidate will be a qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA or CIMA) with post qualified, however, they will also consider candidates with significant relevant experience who are not formally qualified. You’ll have experience in HR and staff management - with an understanding or strong willingness to learn about employment legislation and policies.
Key Responsibilities:
Finance:
 1. Oversee all aspects of financial management and control, working together with a Finance Assistant who does all day-to-day bookings into Sage.
 2. Manage and advise Finance Assistant and other direct reports.
 3. Prepare monthly management accounts and variance analysis.
 4. Manage balance sheet including accruals, prepayments, control of debtors, creditors and stock and completing balance sheet reconciliations.
 5. Monitor and forecast cashflow, ensuring sufficient cash to meet obligations.
 6. Provide monthly reports to Leadership and Trustees.
 7. Deliver financial analysis to inform strategic decision-making.
 8. Prepare year-end accounts and the coordinate external audits.
 9. Lead annual budgets and long-term financial plans.
 10. Manage payroll inputs and authorise payments (salary, pension, tax).
 11. Complete bank reconciliations, oversee governance, and act as a bank signatory.
 12. Ensure compliance with The Charity Commission, HMRC and statutory obligations.
 13. Prepare quarterly VAT return, PAYE liability and Gift Aid claims.
 14. Monitor Restricted Funds ensuring compliance with donor requirements.
 15. When required, provide financial analysis to support the charity’s fundraising and grant bids.
HR:
 16. Support the CEO in overall HR care and support for the team.
 17. Lead recruitment and onboarding for new staff, including DBS and compliance checks.
 18. Maintain accurate HR records and support line managers in using the HR portal.
 19. Ensure all HR policies are current and compliant.
 20. Manage appraisal processes and provide reminders/support to managers.
 21. Act as a confidential point of contact for staff when needed.
 22. Liaise with external HR providers as required.
 23. Work closely with the CEO on staff wellbeing, development, and workplace culture.
