We are recruiting a full‑time Consultant Ophthalmologist with a specialist interest in Glaucoma to join a multidisciplinary team providing optimal care across Huntingdon, Stamford, Peterborough, Ely and Fenland.
Role Overview
The appointment will involve clinical care at any of the three Trust hospitals, on‑call commitments, and participation in shared‑care community schemes. The consultant will also support a strong IT infrastructure, introducing virtual clinics where appropriate.
Key Responsibilities
* Contribute to and coordinate the training of medical staff, hospital‑based optometrists and orthoptic staff involved in the Glaucoma service.
* Provide ongoing responsible care for patients and manage the day‑to‑day functioning of the service, delegating and training staff as needed.
* Manage clinics, ensuring adequate coverage for in‑ and out‑patient services during planned absences.
* Offer advice and support to clinicians in other services for patients with combined ocular problems, facilitating shared‑care episodes.
* Participate in the Medical Advisory Committee and other hospital committees as required.
* Engage in clinical governance, audit, annual training and continuous professional development as mandated by the Royal College of Ophthalmologists.
* Complete the Trust’s Appraisal Scheme.
