Are you an experienced HR Advisor looking to take the next step in your career? Do you enjoy being at the heart of the operation, partnering closely with leaders and colleagues to make a real difference? Are you confident handling employee relations matters in a fast paced, unionised environment? If so, this could be the role for you.

Here at GXO, we're looking for a HR Advisor to join us on our WH SMITH site based in Birmingham. In this role, you'll support the HR Manager in delivering a professional, proactive, and consistent HR service to the operation, working closely with managers and trade union representatives to support business objectives and colleague engagement.

This is a full time, permanent position, offering a genuine opportunity to develop your HR career within one of the world's leading logistics organisations. The hours of work are Monday to Friday, 08:00 – 16:00 or 09:00 – 17:00.

You'll be paid a salary of up to £33,000 per annum, you'll also receive 25 days annual leave (plus bank holidays), as well as the option to buy additional days so you can enjoy a positive work‑life balance. What you'll do on a typical day:

* Advise and support managers on employee relations matters including discipline, grievance, absence, and performance management
* Work closely with Trade Union representatives and site leadership to maintain effective employee relations
* Support recruitment, onboarding, organisational change activity (TUPE, redundancy), and HR projects at site level
* Ensure HR policies, procedures, and legal compliance are applied consistently, supporting engagement and risk reduction
* Support and coach operational managers to build confidence and capability in managing people matters
* Monitor and provide HR Manager with management information with relation to HR matters, such as headcount, turnover and absence
* Organise and lead engagement activities for the site


What you need to succeed at GXO:

* Proven experience in an HR Advisory or HR Officer role with exposure to complex ER cases
* Strong communication and influencing skills with the confidence to challenge constructively
* Ability to work autonomously in a fast paced, unionised environment while managing competing priorities
* Solid understanding of UK employment law and practical application within an operational setting
* CIPD qualified or working towards a qualification (transport/logistics experience desirable)
