At University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay NHS Foundation Trust, employees and patients are at the heart of everything we do. We have exciting opportunities to join our Facilities department at Furness General Hospital as a Domestic Assistant, supporting the Trust in delivering a clean and safe environment for patients, visitors, and staff.
The role is 25 hours per week, working Monday to Friday.
Main duties of the job
To maintain a high standard of cleanliness in clinical, public, and external areas using recognized cleaning methods.
Identify areas to be cleaned, plan and organize cleaning schedules with relevant ward or departmental staff, ensuring patient, staff, and visitor safety.
Operate cleaning equipment and machinery according to manufacturer's instructions, ensuring they are in good working order, and report faults immediately.
Undertake deep clean and isolation cleans following national and local guidelines.
Perform spot cleaning to manage spillages and incidents swiftly and efficiently, with support from clinical staff as needed.
Adhere to all relevant COSHH assessments and safety data sheets when handling cleaning chemicals.

We operate from three main hospitals: Furness General Hospital (FGH) in Barrow, the Royal Lancaster Infirmary (RLI), and Westmorland General Hospital (WGH) in Kendal, as well as community healthcare premises including Millom Hospital, Queen Victoria Hospital in Morecambe, and Ulverston Community Health Centre.
FGH and RLI offer a range of general hospital services, including emergency departments, critical and coronary care units, and specialist outpatient services.
WGH provides general hospital services, an urgent treatment centre, and outpatient diagnostics.
All three hospitals provide planned care, including outpatient services, diagnostics, therapies, day surgery, and inpatient care, alongside community outreach services across Morecambe Bay.

Person Specification
Education and qualifications
* Evidence of good literacy and numeracy skills
* Willingness to work towards a BICS qualification or equivalent NVQ Level 2
* Knowledge of health and safety and COSHH
Experience
* Ability to work independently and as part of a team
* Experience in cleaning within a healthcare setting
* Understanding of cross-contamination risks in healthcare environments
Skills, ability, and knowledge
* Effective communication skills
* Ability to plan and manage workload
* Ability to understand written and spoken instructions
