Consultant Immunologist – Aberdeen Royal Infirmary
Applications are invited for a full‑time (10 programmed activities, 8 direct clinical care + 2 supporting professional activities) replacement post of Consultant Immunologist based at Aberdeen Royal Infirmary. Part‑time hours will be considered. The post is available from 1st May 2026. Full‑time salary is £111,430 – £148,064 (pro rata if applicable) with the starting point on the salary scale dependent on relevant years of experience.
Responsibilities
* Lead the well‑established immunology team delivering NHS diagnostic laboratory and specialist immune deficiency/allergy patient care in the North East of Scotland.
* Provide specialist clinical services, including outpatients, day‑case infusion/challenge and biologics activities, in a dedicated standalone unit adjacent to the laboratory.
* Lead the immunoglobulin home therapy programme across the whole of the North of Scotland.
* Ensure high clinical and laboratory standards in an ISO15189‑accredited laboratory.
Qualifications & Eligibility
* Full registration with a licence to practise with the GMC (must be in place before starting).
* Evidences of higher specialist training leading to CCT or within 6 months of confirmed entry on the GMC Specialist Register.
* Accredited CESR or Portfolio Pathway specialist registration qualifies for the post; Internationally recognised specialist qualification approved by the GMC is acceptable.
* Experienced in immunology, allergy or a related specialty and able to work within a multidisciplinary team.
* Ability to work with a high volume of patients and complex cases.
Additional Information
* Applications from doctors with suitable training and experience who are not listed on the GMC Specialist Register may be considered for a locum Consultant post (up to 12 months) if no substantive Consultant appointment is made.
Location
Aberdeen Royal Infirmary, Foresterhill site. The service serves approximately 500,000 people in the Grampian region and extends into the Highland region, Western Isles, Orkney and Shetland (≈300,000).
