Breastfeeding Advisor – Neonatal Intensive Care

Responsibilities
* Actively promote and support breastfeeding among parents and staff on the neonatal unit.
* Provide training to parents and multidisciplinary staff (including student nurses, student midwives, and healthcare support workers).
* Serve as a specialist resource and role model for the multidisciplinary team.
* Manage stock control of donor breastmilk in line with NICE guidelines and local policy.
* Assist women in establishing and maintaining milk supply and breastfeeding.
* Engage in and support staff and families with prescribed specialist nutritional interventions.
* Support the unit in achieving and maintaining UNICEF Baby Friendly Initiative (BFI) status.
* Maintain confidentiality and comply with Trust guidelines in documentation and practice.
* Participate in clerical duties related to infant feeding and general administrative tasks.
* Promote clinical supervision and reflective practice for self.
* Provide a professional image and uphold high‑quality, patient‑focused care.
Education and Qualifications
* NVQ Level 3 in HealthCare or equivalent.
* Completion of a UNICEF Breastfeeding Management course or equivalent.
* Completion of a one‑day food hygiene course or equivalent.
* Completion of an NCT Breastfeeding Counseling Skills course or equivalent.
Knowledge and Experience
* Experience in neonatal care and breastfeeding support.
* Evidence of recent studies in breastfeeding.
* Previous experience in breastfeeding and milk banking.
* Respect for and maintenance of confidentiality.
Communication Skills
* Ability to manage and prioritise own workload.
* Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
* Good teaching and assessing skills.

Salary
£34,186 to £37,389 per annum, including high cost area allowance.
