Transform Dudley’s future. Shape a borough of opportunity

Dudley is a place of ambition, resilience, and reinvention. Proud of our heritage and bold about our future, we are embarking on major regeneration schemes, transport innovation, and a renewed focus on inclusive growth. Now is the perfect time to help shape Dudley’s next chapter.

We are seeking a dynamic, future-focused Director for Economy and Infrastructure to lead this transformation. This role involves steering some of the borough’s most high-impact programmes and partnerships.

THE VACANCY

Director for Economy and Infrastructure

Hours: Full time

Contract: Permanent

Salary:Up to £130,000 per annum plus benefits

Location: Dudley

As a key member of the Council’s senior leadership team, you will provide strategic direction and operational leadership across a wide portfolio—turning vision into delivery and ambition into tangible results. You will drive major regeneration projects, lead place-based development across Dudley’s towns and communities, and oversee modern, responsive infrastructure services that meet the needs of a growing and evolving borough.

Key Responsibilities

* Regeneration and Place-Shaping: Social, economic, and physical regeneration of Dudley and its townships.
* Highways, Transport, and Parking: Including council fleet, home-to-school transport, local safety schemes, and road safety education.
* Planning Policy: Ensuring Dudley’s growth is sustainable, inclusive, and community driven.
* Infrastructure, Structural Engineering, and Major Projects: Including place-enhancing public realm investment.
* Economic Development and Skills: Connecting people, investment, and opportunities to grow a more inclusive local economy.

You will take a lead role in forging high-impact partnerships with the private sector, regional agencies, investors, developers, and local communities - putting Dudley at the centre of regional growth.

We Are Looking For a Leader Who Will

* Drive regeneration and infrastructure programmes that create lasting value.
* Navigate the complexities of planning, transport, and place-based strategy.
* Deliver through partnership - building credibility with stakeholders, Members, and residents.
* Inspire, modernise, and support multi-disciplinary teams to achieve outcomes at scale.
* Bring clarity, ambition, and rigour to service transformation.
* Understand the power of infrastructure and economic development in reducing inequalities and unlocking potential.

Why Dudley?

We are a borough with a big future. From the Wednesbury to Brierley Hill Metro extension to the £1bn+ regeneration of town centres, we’re investing in sustainable growth, high-quality places, and inclusive economic opportunity. This is your chance to join a leadership team driving systemic change - not just in how we deliver, but in how we grow, connect, and shape our borough for generations to come.
