Position
Mechanical / Multiskilled Engineering Chargehand
Location: St Austell, Cornwall
Salary: £37,002.70 – £39,459.80 DOE, plus a Chargehand payment of £3,156.05
Hours: Monday to Friday, 7.00am – 3.30pm (40 hours per week)
Contract: Full-time, permanent
Reporting to: Site Engineer

About the role
We are looking for a Mechanical / Multiskilled Engineering Chargehand to join the maintenance team at Trebal Refinery. This is a hands‑on leadership role, supporting the delivery of safe and effective maintenance across fixed plant and associated systems on site.
Key responsibilities
* Maintenance and fault finding: Plan and carry out planned preventative, routine and reactive maintenance across processing fixed plant.
* Diagnose and rectify mechanical, electrical and instrumentation faults.
* Support breakdown response to minimise downtime and maintain production performance.
* Leadership and coordination: Provide day‑to‑day leadership to a small multiskilled engineering team.
* Coordinate work activities with contractors and external suppliers.
* Support the development of engineers through coaching and on‑the‑job guidance.
* Continuous improvement and systems: Support installation of new equipment and process modifications.
* Use SAP to create, plan and close maintenance work orders.
* Contribute to continuous improvement activities using Lean, 5S and CI tools.
* Safety, quality and compliance: Work in line with Imerys Safe Working Rules, Local Management Rules and site procedures.
* Ensure compliance with health, safety and environmental legislation.
* Maintain standards aligned to ISO 9001 and ISO 14001.
* Maintain responsibility for engineering areas including workshops, stores and COSHH.
What you will bring
Essential:
* NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent) in engineering.
* Proven experience in mechanical maintenance within an industrial or processing environment.
* Strong fault‑finding and diagnostic skills.
* Experience using SAP or a similar maintenance management system.
* Strong health, safety and environmental awareness.
* Valid license to drive in the UK.
Desirable:
* Multiskilled capability with electrical and instrumentation exposure.
* Previous chargehand or supervisory experience.
* Welding experience (MMA and/or TIG).
